Condition: Very Good. Slight shelf wear on the top edges of the book cover. Otherwise excellent condition. Ghazzali , Sanai and Jami, authors of the four Classics presented here, are among the very greatest names in the Sufi tradition. In terms of Western categorisation, the four classics may be briefly described as: Salam and Absal is an allegory of Jami, translated by Edward Fitzgerald is an allegory of the soul's experiences on earth. The Niche for Lights (The Mishkat of Al-Ghazzali) translated by W.H.T. Gairdner is a mystico-religious study of the 'Light-Verse' in the Koran. The Way of the Seeker ( The Sair al-Ibad Ila'l Maad, of Hakim Sanai) was edited, abridged and translated by David Pendlebury and is a poetic rendering of the Way of spiritual realization. The Abode of Spring ( The Baharisatan of Jami) Abridged and translated by David Pendlebury is a book of counsel for the spiritual aspirant. The introduction by Idries Shah is a thoughtful introduction to the texts.
