Ella Maillart was a Swiss woman explorer, champion skier, sailor, hockey player, writer and traveller. An amazing life. She spent much time in Central Asia and her best remembered book and expedition was from Peking (Beijing) across the Gobi Desert to India with Peter Fleming, the brother of thriller writer, Ian. This book - Forbidden Journey - is her account of this journey undertaken in 1936 when the area had no law or government and was ruled by bandits and private armies. This copy is in very good condition for its for its near ninety years. No dust jacket. Maroon cloth boards. Gilt titles to spine. Dust to the edges of the text block but clean and bright internally.
