He observes the work of Balanchine's own company the New York City Ballet, discusses his works with the dancers Violette Verdy and Suzanne Farrell and recounts Farrell's later career with Balanchine. As well as a dance critic for various magazines the author was also a Professor of English. Georges Balanchine (1904 - 1983) was born in Russia but settled in America in 1933 where he developed his neo-classical style of ballet. He is regarded as the Father of American ballet.
