Very good condition. First edition, published in 1883 by John Murray, the full title is "The English Flower Garden Style, Position, and Arrangement; Followed by a description, alphabetically arranged, of all the plants best suited for its embellishment; their culture, and positions suited for each". The brown clothbound hardback cover has gilt lettering to the spine and shows slight signs of shelf wear including some rubbing to the corners and along the spine, as well as a small tear at the bottom of the spine (1.5cm). It is possible it has been rebound - very nicely - as the cover appears a little too modern for the 1883 text. Some of the pages have also been very nicely repaired along the top or in the gutter. There is some foxing to the text, particularly to the first few pages and to the final few pages, but the text - including numerous b/w illustrations and plates - remains legible throughout. The binding is secure and there are otherwise no significant marks or damage.
