Why do we make the Sign of the Cross from left to right and not from right to left? When did the "Hail Mary" become the universal formula of devotion that it is today? These and many other questions are discussed, and the author's conclusions, based on scholarly examination of the historical evidence is extremely interesting. The jacket has general wear and dust soiling marks; wear down all folds, and creasing and chips and small loss along all edges. Some of this wear is covered by tape to provide more protection; margins are browned and the spine is discoloured.
