Literally translated, the word sidepull meansto pull sideways. This is also the principle of this bridle: the yielding of the reins along the neck on one side causes pressure on the opposite side of the nose: the horse turns. Accepting both reins creates pressure on the nose. This causes the horse to slow down or stop. This is of course in combination with other riding aids. The leather noseband of this simple bridle ends on both cheeks at a ring to which the throat strap and cheekpiece are attached. The reins are attached to a second ring in the same place, which results in finer rein control. In addition, a small leather strap connects the noseband and cheekpiece diagonally, which prevents the noseband from slipping and allows the rider to exert pressure on the cheeks. As with all bitless bridles, the noseband of the sidepull must lie on the hard part of the bridge of the nose, approximately at the beginning of the nasal bone.
