A collection of Life magazine photographer Neil Leifer's photographs of the previously mothballed battleship USS New Jersey as she was reactivated in 1968 to take part in the Vietnam War. Leifer documented the empty ship prior to its reactivation, the process of reactivating her, and her crew going about their daily activities during their occupation of the ship and its deployment to Vietnam. Originally launched in 1942, the New Jersey played a role in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and would go on to support US operations during the Lebanese Civil War. Unpaginated. Illustrated throughout in colour and b&w. Scarce. Hardback, bound in navy blue boards with silver lettering, no dust jacket. Covers have shelf wear and marks, with small closed split to the edge of the spine. Hinges are cracked but binding is still sound. Contents are clean and unmarked.
