This book's author, the late Jack Merriott was a superb artist and illustrator, who's teaching methods , painting techniques and special insights have been gathered together in this book, edited by his close friend and fellow artist, Ernest Savage. The book offers a series of lessons that take the reader from basic watercolour methods to more advanced techniques. A brief history of leads to introductions to materials and equipment. Sketching and painting outdoors is covered and we are shown how to take advantage of the characteristics of watercolour through exercises in tone, gradation, washes and brushwork. This is a charming book and a sound practical guide for watercolourists. Generally fair condition but with staining on some pages. Fading and wear to hard-cover and some marks, through age on dust-jacket.
