Craxton's Cats - Andrew Lambirth The recent John Craxton biography by Ian Collins has brought his work to a greater audience. Some of the most striking examples of his work illustrated in that book were his works depicting cats. John Craxton was a great fan of the cat and at his memorial service his friend David Attenborough recognized that cats for Craxton were a source of endless entertainment: his delight in their antics was both infectious and life-enhancing. The pictures in this book were made from the 1940s to the end of Craxton's life in 2009. They have a freshness to them that he found difficult to capture in larger format paintings of landscape or portrait. As well as fans of Craxton's work this is also a book for fans of cats. John was easily able to capture the feline character in his work. The nosiness and inquisitiveness as well as the lithe form and habit is displayed in these paintings and sketches. Hardback. 144 pages. Measurements: 17.5cm x 19.7cm x 1.6cm
