Published in 2001/2, this catalogue accompanied the first UK solo exhibition of images by the great Italian photographer Claudio Abate. In the 1960s and 70s he worked in Rome, at the time when the youth of Europe was rising up in protest against the stifling and oppressive governments which were so anxious to prevent any recurrence of the events that had led to the two World Wars. The images are startling and strange, all monochrome, and demanding of the viewer's attention and speculation. Claudio Abate (1943-2017) was one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. Friend of artists and intellectuals, he had the merit of forever fixing in his photographs the golden age of Italian art in the 1960s and 1970s. Our book is in excellent condition, its white covers only minimally marked (mainly on the back), and showing no signs of wear to edges, corners or spine. The binding is firm with no loose pages.
