This is one of the English Heritage books which follow the usual editorial line for the collection. Its contents are divided into two main parts: the tour of the castle with explanation of transformations throughout time as the tour progresses around the building, then it resumes the history of the castle in the broader context of events in which the castle got involved. The book is abundantly illustrated. A book that has been read, but is in good condition. Glaze pictorial cover has some faded colouring. Some shelf-wear bumps and creases are also evident e.g. scuff marks, but no holes or tears. Binding has minimal wear. The pages are undamaged but may have some slight creasing but this is minimal. It is clean and bright inside with a little fading to page edges. It contains many black and white images. There is no owner inscription. A well-preserved copy overall.
