This title from Britta Teckentrup has her usual stylish illustration but also offers plenty of interest and knowledge about the humble egg. The book features illustrations of some of our common wild birds including the house sparrow and the chaffinch but also looks at the internal structure of an egg and compares the size of a hummingbird egg with that of the elephant bird. The book also looks at the different nesting habits and habitats of birds from the carefully constructed pouch nest of the oriole to the burrowed river bank next of the kingfisher. Away from the natural world Teckentrup also looks at the mythology of eggs and the tradition of egg decorating, perhaps reaching its apogee in the shape of those created by Fabergé
