This is a 1977 reprint published by The Bass Museum to promote Worthington's India Pale Ale, made in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, UK. Although the museum has unfortunately closed down, Worthington's is still a beloved brand in the UK and has impressive sales overseas too. This particular magazine features images of Worthington's ads from the 1920s and 1930s of their anthropomorphic bird characters. Each page features a image of the bird with humourous paragraphs about their characteristics, songs, plumage, appetites, and jokey Latin names for their species. Characters include 'The Budgetigar (or Hardto Swallow)' (a parody of the Chancellor of the Exchequer), 'The Howzat or Willow Tit', and 'The Common Petrel or Notso Swift', to name but a few, all illustrated deftly by R. J. Bailey. A very fun and nostalgic piece, this would be a lovely item for any beer fans or people who appreciate British cultural history and tongue-in-cheek humour.
