The work of Eugene Grasset and Paul Berthon typify the art of the fin de siecle era with its fusion of Medieval and Oriental, poetic and romantic tendencies. In particular, Grasset and his student, Berthon, characterized the archetype of Art Nouveau maidenhood. This book, published in 1978, was the first comprehensive study of these artists who were active across an enormous range of media, designing posters, advertisements, prints, decorative illustrations for books and magazines, calendars wallpapers, jewelry and ceramics. The text is complemented by more than 120 illustrations, over half in colour. It contains a Checklist of identified posters and graphics of both artists, a Bibliography and an Index.
