The 74 tissue guarded engraved coloured illustrations are from original paintings by Robert Fowler. The text is by poet Edward Thomas. The cloth boards and spine have gilt titles and gilt and red decorations. The book is in good condition for its age. The boards and spine have been rubbed at the edges and bumped at the corners and top and bottom of the spine. There are some small losses to the surface of the cloth. The page edges are gilded at the top edge but are otherwise rough cut. The binding has a split at the front but is still attached. Internally there is some general browning to some of the paper but most pages are clean and unmarked. The illustrations are bright and fresh.
