Edith, the main character of the book, decides to buy her Mum a birthday present and overhears her sister discussing what she is going to get her . . . she hears the words fluffy . . . . squishy . . . itty . . . bitty. And sets off on a tour of the town shops in search of a fluffy squishy itty bitty. She has no luck at the bakery or the clothes shop or indeed the antiques shop but the owners of all of those shops giver her something instead . . . she uses these objects to further her search for the elusive fluffy squishy itty bitty.
