Extract from Foreword: More than twenty years ago, in the springtime of the Art Deco revival, one could buy examples of the real thing, surviving in the form of Curwen Press Pattern Papers, from the Curwen Gallery in Colville Place. These were designs by luminaries like Paul Nash and Edward Bawden, commissioned in the 1920s by Oliver Simon to provide a machine-made alternative to the then-fashionable hand-blocked papers from Italy.
