First English edition of this remarkable collection of close-up b&w photographs of plants taken by the German photographer and sculptor Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932). Blossfeldts photographs emphasise the geometrical forms that occur in nature, and came to be appreciated as works of art as well as scientifically exact reference materials. The photographs in this volume were printed using photogravure, a labour-intensive process utilising etched copper plates that yields rich, high quality impressions. Scarce. Hardback, no DJ. Bound in green cloth with gilt lettering. Moderate shelf wear to boards, with some dusty/dirty marks. Small dent to bottom edge of rear cover. Very slight bumping/wear to corners and spine. Contents generally clean and unmarked, though there is slight foxing to some pages. Some slight ink transfer from some of the images to the (blank) verso. Moderate foxing to endpapers, crease along FEP. One page has come loose from the binding.
