The Barker & Ellis coaster is in very good (unpolished) condition. The second, unsigned, is fair but nevertheless very attractive! The Barker & Ellis, Made in England, measures c 15cm diameter at top and green felt base is c 11.5cm. The depth is c 4.5cm. The internal wood base (oak?) has a silver plated inlay in the centre and concentric circles cut into the wood. It would hold a bottle 10cm at base. The openwork designs around belly are in the form of leaf fronds. Around the rim they are even more stylised fronds. It's probably late 19th or early 20th century. The second coaster is rather more ornate, almost Art Nouveau in style. Much of the silver plate has been polished away to show the underlying copper. The design is of scrolling vine leaves and grapes. The central wood base has damaged varnish, its underside has lost the green felt covering it must have had originally. Unsigned.
