During the Second World War, the 48th Fighter Wings primary aircraft was the P-47 Thunderbolt, so for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landing, the 492nd FS/48th FW at RAF Lakenheath England painted one of their aircrafts in markings representing the black and white stripes worn by Allied aircraft.
