One of the many books published by the editor, this 'does what it says on the tin', providing a broad selection of works by Russian poets of the 18th to 20th centuries, a few of which are translated by Bowra himself. Sir Cecil Maurice Bowra, CH, FBA (18981971) was an English classical scholar, literary critic and academic, known for his wit. He was Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, (1938-1970), Professor of Poetry at Oxford (1946-1951), and served as vice-chancellor of the University (1951-1954). Our book is in good condition, still with its unclipped dust jacket, protected in a mylar sleeve, and showing signs of wear & use (a mended tear to the top rear corner/fold, some brown staining to the top edge, and a generally 'tired' air).
