A musica na obra de Camoes: por Joao de Freitas Branco A reading of everything that is known today, certainly or probably, by Luís Vaz de Camões, done in search of musical references, seems to exceed the limits of specialized research. It will not be indifferent to the general Portuguese to learn, through the supreme poet of his country, a considerable part of the vocabulary relating to music that was used in the sixteenth century. Nor to learn that the meanings of some of these words differed from those they now have for the cultivators of the art of sounds. Nor to recover ways of speaking that are more suggestive or concise than those currently practiced. Nor to gain half a dozen arguments clarifying the degree to which Luís de Camões himself would have devoted himself to music, whether as a simple amateur of it, in total auditory passivity, or as a more or less qualified performer. The condition of the book is very good and the pages inside the book are clean.
