Cuxham, twelve miles south-east of Oxford, is an almost perfect example of the classical Midland manor. Its small size and the superb series of early records at Merton College have enabled it to be studied in exceptional detail, and special attention has been paid to matters likely to be of general significance. Aspects of medieval rural life on which the Cuxham records throw new light include the position of the reeve, the heaping of corn measures, the peasants' use of surnames, and the social dislocation that followed the Black Death. From the Oxford Historical Series, published by the Oxford University Press. First edition (1965), red clothbound with gold gilt lettering on the spine. Dustjacket is present, not price clipped and protected in clear plastic wrap. Dustjacket has minor edgewear, with some small cracks. Inscription on the free front endpaper dated 8/6/65 with some ghosting of previous prices. Pages are clean and bright with no foxing, binding is square and tight.
