Hardcover in green cloth boards with black titles and a circular illustration inset on the front cover. Published by the Penn Publishing Company, Philadelphia. First edition, 1935. By Alice Turner Curtis, illustrated by Hattie Longstreet Price. Alice Turner Curtis (1860-1958) was an American author best known for her Little Maid series of historical childrens books. A Little Maid of Newport was the 22nd book in the series. She also wrote several other series of childrens fiction and some non-fiction. The story opens in March 1777 during the British armys occupation of Newport, prior to the Battle of Rhode Island in the American War of Independence. Hardback, no dustjacket, with some bumps and scrapes to covers, aging of pages, and a cracked front hinge, but covers remain entirely attached. A previous owners pencilled name has been erased from the front endpaper. Altogether a very good condition copy for its age.
