Volume 1 includes an introductory review of the animal kingdom by Baron Cuvier, copious notes on new discoveries in natural history and a life of Oliver Goldsmith by Washington Irving. There are numerous coloured illustration protected by tissue guards. The two volumes are half leather bound with marbled boards. The volumes are in fair condition for their age. There is extensive rubbing to the board edges and to the leather corners which have been bumped. The edges and top and bottom of the spine have also been rubbed. The leather has some surface losses. On volume 2 the top of the spine has a closed tear. On volume 1 the front hinge has cracked but the binding remains tight. Internally many of the pages are foxed.
