Compagnie de Provence was born from the imagination of two Frenchmen in 1990 when they established their company in Marseille. Aware of the reputation of the square blocks of Marseille soap, a reputation that had been held in high esteem since the 17th Century, they sought to re-interpret the product which had largely been supplanted by industrial detergents and chemically fragranced soaps.
