Hand woven from local sisal grass by a skilled craftswoman working within a small cooperative in rural kenya, the mazao range of colourful baskets come in three different sizes for use all over the home. These bright baskets make fabulous fruit baskets and desk tidies, and can be used as both small and large planters for all manner of house plants. The craftswomen behind our mazao woven baskets have perfected the age-old art of weaving from their mothers and grandmothers, and work within a small, rural weaving cooperative. Where once these weavers would travel regularly to nairobi to sell their woven baskets, the basket room now provides them with regular and fairly-paid orders, and these completed baskets are then stored in purpose-built mud huts. As demand increases, the cooperative continues to thrive and grow under the guidance of its inspirational chairlady, madam dorcas.
