Let's face it.... if I was a painter, I would probably want to start painting on a clean canvas. A canvas free of flaws, rough edges most importantly, free of paint. Make senseAs a mix engineer, I feel the same way about mixing. I simply don't like mixing on a system that hasn't been setup properly. The truth is, a system riddled with flaws in the response, no speaker level and alignment can make the mixing experience less than enjoyable. In fact, it can be downright humiliating if things get out of control.All too often, we expect the mixing board to help us correct all the flaws we encounter when the problem is within our sound system..... our canvas.This situation puts us on the diagnostic side of the mixer. Ironically, we don't get to mix that much because we are busy diagnosing or troubleshooting this scenario isn't very fun. What is the band thinking People are giving me that look.... I hope I can fix this fast.... Man, I really suck at this .... I may as well sell all my crap
