pTan Taigi 1709 -1771 was a major haiku poet, who along with Buson, headed the Basho revival and helped revitalize haiku in eighteenth century Japan. As Taigi lived in Kyoto, his haiku seasons often reflect the social side of things and we get many cultural vignettes of the Edo period.
