In November 1984, Daimler-Benz presented its new saloon in the upper middle class. It became the successor to the 123 series, and was still considered to be the "middle Mercedes class". For the 124 series, Daimler-Benz used central elements of the W 201, but WAS should not change its continued successful independence. Wiking miniaturized the Mercedes-Benz in its first E-Class version early on and then provided a top-of-the-line boost in the passenger car range.
