This wonderful promotional brochure of Phoenix and Maricopa County, Arizona was published in 1934 by the Immigration Commissioner of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. Photographs and text throughout the double sided pages highlight the healthy climate (said to help tuberculosis patients), recreational opportunities, robust transportation network and abundance of agricultural production. The last was made possibly largely through the development of the Salt River Project. Organized in 1903 as a result of the National Reclamation Act, the association would be best known for constructing the complex system of canals and dams which fueled farm growth and settlement in the region. A bird's eye view, drawn by T.A. Hayden, shows the complex system spread across the Great Salt River Valley Plain. Various districts, towns, and transportation routes are individually outlined and labeled, surrounded by stark pictorial topography.
