This type of view book originates in Germany and is an example of the curious mixture of photograph and drawing which were prolific from about 1875 to 1895 when photography finally won the day. This example must date from about 1893 as the Promenade Pier which was completed in 1893 is shown as constructed, although the album may date from before the Pier was completed as it is quite common for these albums to have 'proposed' developments shown as completed.
