Stated First Edition. This was Jerry Pinkney's first illustrated book. Following that he did pretty well for himself. He won the 2010 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration, recognizing The Lion & the Mouse. He also has five Caldecott Honors. He has five Coretta Scott King Awards, four New York Times Best Illustrated Awards (most recently in 2006 for Little Red Hen), four Gold and four Silver medals from the Society of Illustrators, and the Boston GlobeHorn Book Award (John Henry, 1994). Finding a Non-Library First Edition of 'the adventures of spider: West African Folk Tales' is a very rare thing. My search revealed only one other copy, selling for $250. It needs to be said that that copy has a dust jacket which is in better condition than mine. I think I've clearly made up for that difference in the pricing.
