Horace Bénédict de Saussure (1740 - 1799) was a Swiss meteorologist, physicist, mountaineer, geologist, and Alpine explorer. He offered (in 1760) a reward to the first man to reach the summit of Mont Blanc. He reached the summit himself in 1787 (the third recorded man to do so). This is the story of his journey. Very good in grey pastepaper with vellum spine titled "Saussure / Montblanc" in black. Three interior strings hold the two booklets and title page pamphlet in place.
