Bright mustard yellow cloth bds with bumped (not rubbed) extrems, text tight and bright w/out names or soil. 135pp. Original, un-clipped mustard yellow dust wrapper shows even surface soil and some repairs but displays very well in new mylar. Includes 8 full page b/w plates by K. F. Barker and several vignettes throughout. This is not a sentimental story of a pony told by the pony itself. This is the tale of Phari, told in third person by the author of a pony who lived in India, his hardships, early life on the wind-swept table land of Tibet, through his life with Ta-Lun's caravan in the hills, working unflaggingly amidst the snow and wind; his friendship with the mule, Thunder, his sale to Sahib, Mr. Martin, his training by Mary Martin the 14-year old daughter of the Englishman, as a riding pony and afterwards as a polo pony. Then follows his capture by thieves and his experiences on Active Service.
