This outstanding botanical engraving is from Pierre-Joseph Redoute's "Album de Redoute". The work was published in Paris by Imprimerie de Remond. It was not dated, but was done circa 1824. --- Each plate for this work was stipple-engraved, printed in color, with each finished by hand after Redoute, by Langlois, Bessin, de Gouy, Couten, Tassaert, Allais, and Chaponnieu. "Album" was specially published to include a selection of engravings from his most celebrated works. It included engravings from "Les Roses", "Les Liliacees", and "Jardin de la Malmaison". --- Redoute's name is synonymous with beauty and in the world of botanical art he is known as the best. The work proved to be not only outstanding in terms of its beauty but also for its scientific merits. Many of the images were after Thory's personal collection as well as the rose garden of the Empress Josephine's garden at Malmaison. Redoute and Thory described almost all of the important roses that were known in their time. Lawalre
