Convinced that the note will give him a link to his father, Hugo steals windup mechanical parts from a toymaker in the station and attempts to fix the automaton by following the sketches and instructions in his fathers notebook. But when the toymaker, a bitter old man with a mysterious past, catches him and confiscates the notebook, Hugos attempts to reclaim it begin to unravel the decades-old mystery of the long-lost automaton.
