1975. First Edition, xxii, 298pp, index, illustrated in color. Very light wear, else VG in G+ dj. Bellard was a private in the Fifth New Jersey Regiment. He had enlisted at the age of eighteen and saw action in most of the important campaigns of the Army of the Potomac in 1862 and 1863 and spent his final year serving in the provost marshal's guard that kept order in the bars and brothels of Washington. He kept a diary, illustrated with his pencil sketches and wash drawings, during his years of service, which is here published for the first time.
