This is the jewel in the crown of the Baddeley's Thorough Guides.A very good example of these beautifully produced guide books, the precursors of the Red Guides. They developed an enviable reputation for clarity and accuracy to rival Karl Baedeker. This book is in decent condition. The maps are by Bartholomew. The familiar red covers with gold lettering are in excellent condition. somewhat faded. The covers show the pattern of old fashioned metal hinges on the front and rear covers. The 18 maps are all present but two or three are frayed at the edges. There are panoramas and diagrams. The general map, opposite the title page has small tears. The binding is very sound but is and there are clear signs of water damage to both covers. In addition to the 248 pages of text there is an appendix, an index and 88 pages of fascinating advertisements from the time.
