Kenzan - Cut Flower Supports As we should all be trying to cut back on our use of single use products so a reliance on florist's oasis in flower arranging should go out of the window. One substitute to oasis is a scrunched up ball of wide gauge chicken wire but these Japanese cut flower supports are a step up from that. They look a bit like torture devices, or a bed of nails, for a very small scale circus. Sharp brass pins sit closely together in a weighty metal base and can support both woody stems and also softer green stalks. Large woody sections can be held by firstly making small cross cuts in the base of the woody section. The kenzan then sits in the bottom of your vase or saucer and is covered with water. If you are using a saucer, or vessel where the kenzan is visible, you can then cover the top of the spikes with moss to disguise the spikes . . . but not in a booby trap way. The supports come in 4 different sizes (three circular and one long one) and are individually boxed
